Southlander Group's farming enterprise is focused on breeding and growing premium quality pasture fed beef cattle which are sought after by leading processors for both domestic and export markets. Our livestock operations are quality accredited by Meat and Livestock Australia's MSA program as well as the Greenham Never Ever Beef Program which promotes under the Cape Grim brand, premium quality, ethically raised, natural grass-fed beef from breeders and finishers across Tasmania, Flinders Island and King Island.

Our breeding herd of one hundred and sixty Hereford-cross cows graze a total of 800 acres across three picturesque coastal properties on the Tasman Peninsula, in Premaydena and Port Arthur. Owing to fertile soils, tall timbers and medium to high rainfalls, the lands have a rich history, established as some of Tasmania's earliest colonial farms.

Our Cows are joined to Shorthorn bulls each year at the end of November for an early spring calving. The Calves are weaned at 8-10 months of age and moved up to another 800 acres across two near-adjoining properties in Penna and Orielton. Traditionally considered to be dryland sheep grazing and grain cropping country, the productive potential for these properties heightened dramatically upon the development of the South East Irrigation Scheme in recent years. Here we are in the early stages of farm renewal; installing irrigation and building new farm infrastructure along with undergoing a program of pasture improvement to develop this property into an intensive, rotationally grazed irrigated cattle finishing operation.

Whilst breeding and raising cattle is the core focus of our farming operations, we also breed a few lambs and grow vegetable crops to supply the restaurant at our family's business, Riverfront Motel & Villas located just north of Hobart, on the banks of the Derwent River.
